CS 485 - Database Management Systems
Fall 2004

Loyola College > Department of Computer Science > CS 485 > Project
For this project, you will create an Oracle database, populate it with data, and create queries against the database. This project is designed to go through all the steps involved to creating a database, so you will not actually work with Oracle until step 6.

Use the Art History example in the text as a guide for completing each of the steps. This project will be graded on completeness and how well you apply the ideas learned in class to the project. You will not be evaluated on standards not discussed in the text, such as the format of a report. Any report that includes the information described is acceptable.

This project will be completed in in small groups of 2-3 students. Each group will be assigned a different scenario. The scenarios are described on pages 50-65 of the text book. Read each description and rank the scenarios based on your preference for working on them. This ranking is due at 5 PM on 9/9/2004 in an e-mail to lawrie@cs.loyola.edu. Groups will be created and announced in class on Friday, 9/10.

In general, projects are due at 5 PM of the day listed. Steps 1 to 5 will be turned in as a paper print out either in class or in my department mail box. For Step 6 you will turn in the files that make up your database electronically as well as turning in a paper print out of the rest of the work in class or in my department mail box. Included in each step should be a description of how work was divided among the group and what each individual was primarily responsible for.
